Man accused of shooting JPD officer appears in court

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The man who is accused of shooting a Jackson Police officer appeared in court Monday.

Rashad Caston was denied bond for aggravated assault on a police officer and armed robbery.

He is also being charged with burglary and for being a convicted felon with a firearm.

Caston turned himself in to police on Friday.

Last Wednesday, Officer Abe Gines was shot at the Edgewood Terrance Apartments while he was responding to a call. Police said Caston fired shots at Gines and escaped through a window. A bullet grazed Gines in his side.
