PEARL, Miss (WJTV) – The Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) wants people to take caution after recent flooding the state.
MSDH would like for residents to wear “protective clothing and sturdy shoes” during cleanup. Dump all items that were affected by flood water. For example, items like food, medicine, cosmetics or bottled water.
Canned goods can still be used but they must be cleaned first with disinfectant like “one-quarter cup of bleach to one gallon of water”.
Make sure ladders are secure if you are cleaning roofs and gutters.
Be aware mold may arise after flooding. Call a private contractor to help with removal.
Also, do not let children play in flood water.
If you come in contact with a snake do not attempt to catch or kill the snake during cleanup. If bitten, call 911 immediately. Keep the person and the bitten part of the body flat. Do not elevate the injured area.
