JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – City of Jackson Mayor Tony Yarber held a town hall meeting Tuesday night at Provine High School.
He addressed the city’s infrastructure, the legislation made to take over Jackson’s airport, and his dismay with recent crime.
He also revealed the city has made an appeal to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Equality to keep the department from taking over Jackson’s wastewater treatment system
“We lose our waste water treatment center. We lose our ability to treat water, then the city is no longer ours. You haven’t heard about that,” said Mayor Yarber.
Mayor Yarber also added that if MDEQ was to take over the wastewater treatment system there would be an automatic 25 percent increase in water rates.
