JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Some Mississippi state troopers were honored Tuesday for their service.
They received the Medal of Valor Award.
Gov. Phil Bryant honored them at the State Capitol Building. One trooper who was injured said it takes a lot to do the job, but he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Once you put the uniform on, you take risks you know there’s times you’re out there by yourself,” Deondre Dixon said. “You’re working for the people and as a state trooper, I’m working for the state of Mississippi. I’m constantly putting my life on the line for people I don’t know and I’d do it any time.”
Dixon was one of the three troopers honored. He and two others were injured when a suspect opened fire on them last month in North Mississippi. MBN Agent Lee Tartt died in that standoff.
