JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — There was a message of encouragement for Veterans of the past and present Tuesday.
An event was held honoring the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War.
Leaders say 636 Mississippians paid the ultimate sacrifice during the war. This was a way to honor their sacrifice and thank them for the work they did to protect our country.
Governor Phil Bryant was the keynote speaker, and there was also a panel of Army Veterans who addressed the crowd.
Several American Vietnam soldiers and their families were in the crowd The event’s speaker talked about the ongoing process of healing that many of those veterans are working through; even now.
Gov. Bryant gave a proclamation honoring Vietnam Veterans Day in Mississippi.
The veterans who attended the event received a commemorative pin.
