RIDGELAND, Miss. (WJTV) — Two women were arrested for shoplifting in Ridgeland.
Ridgeland Police said the incident happened at the Belk Department Store in the Northpark Mall Monday.
When officers arrived on the scene, 49-year-old Sheri Prestage and 36-year-old Amanda Vance Miles were being held by the Belk Loss Prevention Department.
The inventory of stolen items showed that Miles allegedly took jewelry worth more than $200 from the store. Police said Prestage allegedly took jewelry valued at nearly $1,960.
In addition to the Ridgeland incident, police said items were stolen from a Flowood store and Miles and Prestage were identified as suspects in that case. Those stolen items were found in Miles’ car, according to police.
They said Prestage also had possession of what they believe was hydrocodone. They are waiting for lab results to determine what the substance is at this time.
Prestage was charged with felony shoplifting and possession of a controlled substance. Miles was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.
Both women bonded out of jail in Ridgeland and were released to the custody of the Flowood Police Department to face charges there.
Miles and Prestage were both charged with one count of misdemeanor shoplifting. They both bonded out of jail and face up to $1,000 in fines and 180 days in jail.
Their initial appearance in court is April 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
Miles is the wife of Rep. Tom Miles of District 75 (D).
