The best chances of severe weather will be during the overnight hours tonight & again Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening.
The biggest threats are heavy rain that could lead to flash flooding, hail, & damaging winds, but a few tornadoes are possible. The highest risk for severe weather, including tornadoes, is in the Enhanced Risk area (orange shading). An isolated strong tornado can’t be ruled out.
A Flash Flood Watch will be in effect for several of our counties beginning this afternoon & lasting into Thursday evening. Between now and Thursday night, 2-4″ of rain will be common across the area, but there could be some localized areas that see more than 5″ of rain during this same time frame.
Warm and humid air is continuing to surge into the area this morning, ahead of several disturbances that will move through the area over the next 36 hours or so. Those disturbances will tap into the warm and moist air and produce several waves of showers & storms. Ahead of the severe storm potential tonight, we’ll see chance of scattered showers and storms today. Some areas will miss out on the rain during the day Wednesday, but the coverage of the rain will increase through the late evening hours and just about everyone will see rain overnight. Some of the storms may be severe. The chance of strong to severe storms will return again Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening.
There is an ENHANCED RISK of severe storms for both days in our area. That’s a threat level of 3 on a scale of 0 to 5. All modes of severe weather will be possible including damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes. Please stay weather aware through Thursday night.
