VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) – A Vicksburg family shelter is getting some renovations ahead of what they expect to be a busy time.
Lifting Lives Ministries has been changing an old motel into a shelter for the past three years.
Flooding in January displaced families throughout the city and more flooding is expected soon.
Luckily a group from Illinois heard about the project and now they are in Vicksburg to help.
The mayor says this kind of service is always needed, not just during times of devastation.
“Well I encourage all citizens and all organizations to follow suit behind this, to join in the effort with the community development department and others by working with the city of Vicksburg,” said George Flaggs, the mayor of Vicksburg.
The group from Illinois donated $35, 000.
The shelter will be able to build a mess hall, office building, group bible study room, and living spaces
They hope to add a kitchen soon.
