MHP: Firetruck failed to yield in crash that killed 10-year-old boy

RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) –More information has been released about a crash involving a firetruck that killed a 10-year-old boy.

Higuillermo Perez Mentreo was killed from the crash on April 3, 2016.

According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the firetruck failed to yield the right of way.

Cpl. Eric Henry said the MHP Accident crash team discovered that the Ford Escape was going South on Highway 43 and the Lake Harbor Firetruck was traveling east on Carter Store Road. The firetruck was trying to cross the southbound lanes on Highway 43 when the truck hit the SUV in the southbound lane.

MHP said the firetruck did not yield the right of way of the Ford Escape.

Also, in the SUV with Higuillermo was his mom, dad, and two other children. They were taken to the hospital.

We’re told the father is out of the hospital. At last check, the other three are still in the hospital.
