KIAWAH ISLAND, SC (WCBD) — The United States Coast Guard confirms Logan Brown, 21, was found alive on Sunday, April 10, after he was reported overdue for a return from a kayak excursion on Saturday, April 9.

The Deputy Director of Folly Beach Public safety reports Brown is in good condition with minor injuries.

The search continues for 22-year-old Dean Britt.

Crews did find Britt’s kayak in the middle of the search area.

The Coast Guard, along with members of Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Folly Beach Fire and Police Departments, are conducting the search in the area between Folly Beach and Morris Island Lighthouse.

A friend of the kayakers notified watch-standers in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center of the situation, at approximately 9:40 p.m. Saturday. The initial report stated the two departed Folly Beach at approximately 1 p.m., and planned to kayak to Morris Island Lighthouse. Both kayakers were expected back before sunset.

Crews aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston and a 45-foot Response Boat—Medium from Coast Guard Station Charleston have launched to search for the kayakers.

Helicopter searches continued through Sunday night and ground searches will continue on Monday.

Anyone with information that can assist search crews is urged to call the Sector Charleston Command Center at 843-740-7050.
