Man sentenced for Adams County 2012 prison riot

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — A 39-year-old man is sentenced for rioting at the Adams County Correctional Facility in 2012.

According to U.S. Attorney Gregory Wilbanks’ office, Hiasom Ali was sentenced to serve 51 months in prison.

He also must pay more than $1, 380,000 in restitution.

Ali pleaded guilty to the rioting charge in May 2014. The incident occurred on May 20, 2014.

Several officers were assaulted, and one died from his injuries. Some correctional officers were also held hostage for several hours by rioters.

The damaged to the facility totaled more than $1,305,000.

The case was investigated by the FBI and the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
