WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – Donald Trump’s campaign has released a statement after a prosecutor decided to drop charges against his top aide for grabbing a female reporter.
The statement Thursday says that campaign manager Corey Lewandowski is gratified by the decision and appreciates the thoughtful consideration and professionalism by the Palm Beach State Attorney and his staff who carefully reviewed the matter.
It also says he appreciated Trump’s loyalty and the support of his colleagues and family during this time and said the matter is now concluded.
Lewandowski denied grabbing reporter Michelle Fields and Trump stood by him, rejecting calls by his opponents to fire him. Instead he went after Fields, accusing her of exaggerating and changing her story.
The prosecutor said Thursday that there wasn’t enough evidence to pursue charges.
