CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Austin Peay State University continues to investigate nooses found on a campus tree Monday.
News 2 took a call from someone claiming to be a student, who said the display was part of an art project.
According to the university, several people complained at 5 p.m. Monday after seeing six nooses arranged in the color of the rainbow near the Trahern Find Arts Building.
Campus police later removed them, concerned of their symbolism.
University president Alisa White released a statement after the nooses were removed, reading in part, “Regardless of the intent, the display has no place on our campus. I am saddened, and I am sorry for the hurt and offense this has caused and want our students, faculty, and staff to know that it will not be tolerated.”
