2 MDOC officers arrested for attempting to smuggle contraband in prisons

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Two Mississippi Department of Corrections officers are behind bars for trying to sneak contraband into prisons.

MDOC officials said 23-year-old Martonius Jones was arrested Monday at the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. They said law enforcement officers found alcohol in Dasani water bottles. They also found about two bundles of weed. Jones worked at Parchman

Jones is charged with introduction of a controlled substance into a correctional facility and introduction of alcohol into a correctional facility. He was booked into the Sunflower County Jail.

32-year-old Darrel Wilder worked at the Central Mississippi Correctional Facility. He was arrested there after authorities found a plastic bag of tobacco under his vehicle during a random search.

Wilder is charged with possession of prohibited items by persons other than offenders. Wilder was taken to the Rankin County Detention Center. He faces a maximum one year in prison, or $1,000 fine, or both, if convicted.

Wilder, who was hired June 2, 2014, and Jones, who has been on the job since Aug. 18, 2014, are being recommended for suspension and face termination.
