FLOWOOD, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency, also known as MORA, got a very special donation from the Jackson Prep Class of 2016.
The school raised $10,000 in honor of classmate Walker Wilbanks, an organ donor in 2014.
The event took place at MORA headquarters in Flowood.
It was part of the Racing for Donation 8K.
Walker Wilbanks passed away two years ago after collapsing at a football game.
His organs were then donated to help save the lives of others.
“We love, we love our recipient families. It means so much to us as donor families to know that our loved ones are still doing something and making a difference in this world,” said David Wilbanks, the father of Walker Wilbanks.
Walker collapsed at Jackson Prep’s first game of the season.
He was sent to the hospital and died days later.
Doctors say his brain swelled which caused a lack of sodium in his body.
Walker would have graduated in May.
