2 dead in crash on I-20 West near Norrell Road

UPDATE – CLINTON, Miss. (WJTV) — Authorities have released more details about a fatal crash that left two people dead Tuesday.

17-year-old Austin Thomas and 18-year-old Tanner Gardo died in a car crash on I-20 West near the Norrell Road exit. The accident occurred in a construction zone.

According to Mississippi Highway Patrol Cpl. Eric Henry, law enforcement officers went to the crash site around 2 p.m. The wreck involved a GMC truck and two tractor trailers.

A Surge Logistics tractor trailer was stopped due to backed up traffic on the Interstate. The GMC truck that Gardo and Thomas were inside stopped behind that semi. MHP said their truck was hit from behind by another tractor trailer, according to MHP.

The pickup truck was sandwiched between the two trailers.

Thomas and Gardo died on the scene.

The drivers in bothtractor trailers were taken to the hospital.

Clinton Police are still investigating the accident. MHP is assisting with the investigation.


I-20 is now back open after the fatal crash that killed two people.


CLINTON, Miss. (WJTV) — First repsonders are on the scene of a deadly crash on I-20 West near mile marker 31.

Officials tell us that two people are dead.

According to Cpl. Eric Henry of Mississippi Highway Patrol, the westbound lanes near Norrell Road are blocked.

We’re told a truck and two semis were involved in the crash. MHP and Clinton Police are on the scene.

Traffic is being directed to exit 31. Drivers should find an alternate route.

No other details have been released.
