JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Some state employees are on edge after budget cuts to many state agencies.
The Mississippi Alliance of State Employees represents state employees.
President Brenda Scptt said over the past few weeks, she’s received more and more calls of people scared that they may lose their jobs because of cuts.
“Just a great amount of uncertainty out there as a relates to the future of our state employees,” she said. ” And it’s across the board. It’s in corrections and in mental health. It’s in the health department and the department of human services. It’s just across the board.”
There are other problems for state employees. Scott tells WJTV that Mississippi workers make about $9,000 less than state workers in surrounding states, like Tennessee and Louisiana.
