Go Red for Women luncheon held in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The American Heart Association hosted the annual Go Red for Women Luncheon Thursday.

The event was held at the Jackson Convention Complex.

WJTV’s Melanie Christopher got the chance to emcee the event.

Guest got the chance to receive free health screenings and women affected by heart disease shared their stories of survival. A fashion show featuring area heart disease survivors closed out the luncheon. The models got the chance to wear items from local shops.

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the U.S. According to the American Heart Association, more than one in three females has some form of cardiovascular disease taking the lives of more than 420,000 women every year, which is about one every minute.

Organizers said the purpose of the ‘Go Red for Women’ movement is to bring attention to the threat of heart disease to women and to create a call to action for all women to commit to living a heart-healthy lifestyle.
