JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Volunteers and staff from the Mississippi Department of Transportation teamed up Thursday for the annual “Trash Bash” event.
The event is put on each year by MDOT.
Its purpose is so that groups can go to different areas in the Metro to pick up litter.
Organizers said this was a part of MDOT’s contribution to the Great American Cleanup. The Great American Cleanup is a year-long campaign presented by Keep America Beautiful.
Volunteers and others gathered at Smith-Wills Stadium to break up into teams and to be briefed on safety.
MDOT officials said each year, thousands of volunteers in counties across the state gather for the event to remove thousands of cubic yards worth of litter from Mississippi highways.
