Dog helps homeowner stop alleged burglar until police arrive

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — A Jackson homeowner finds a man trying to steal from him, so with a little help from his dog, they stopped a suspected criminal.

The incident took place on Dorgan Street a little after noon Friday.

The homeowner, who did not want to be identified, told WJTV that his dog helped him stop the burglar.

“I let him off the chain he came up on the porch and just stood there,” the homeowner said. “I told him he might as well come on out now. If you don’t come out, you’re going to get bit.”

He described how his dog helped him realize something was wrong.

“The neighbors noticed the guys walking, and I notice my dog barking,” he said. “I came outside and saw that suspect in my storage room. I let my dog loose, and my dog contained him until the police got here.”

WJTV has reached out to Jackson Police to find out more about the alleged burglar. We will update this story when those details become available.
