Man Uses Dog to Hold Off Would-Be Burglar

A Jackson homeowner finds a man trying to steal from him, so with a little help from his dog, they stop a suspected criminal. That all went down on Dorgan Street just after noon Friday. We talked to people who were watching on as police took that suspect into custody.
“I let him off the chain he came up on the porch and just stood there. I told him he might as well come on out now. If you don’t come out you’re going to get bit,” The Homeowner said.
A Jackson man finds himself proud of his dog Friday after he comes face to face with a man trying to steal from him.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if they tried to hit all five houses because normally we would all be at work this time of day,” he said.

The homeowner asked us not to show his face. He described how his dog helped him realize something was wrong.
“The neighbors noticed the guys walking, and I notice my dog barking. I came outside and saw that suspect in my storage room. I let my dog loose in my dog contain him until the police got here,” he said.

In the minutes after, it was just him and the man he caught until the authorities could arrive.
“He was the only one at my property but the neighbor said they saw two other guys at this house in the house next to that one,” he said.

A neighbor, who also asked to remain anonymous, tells us she has lived on Dorgan Street for close to 20 years and has never experienced anything like this.
“I don’t know what’s going on nowadays. People are just losing their minds,” She said. “It’s hard to know you try to do what’s right and try, to be honest, and you have these people who don’t want anything out of life and aren’t trying. Don’t mess up something that someone else has worked hard for.”

We have reached out to police about this situation and are working to find out more about the man arrested. We will continue to update you as we learn more.
