BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – A Brandon family is left without a home. A fire broke out at a home on Cornerstone Drive in the Cornerstone Subdivision. The family tells WJTV they saw smoke coming through the vents and within an hour, a fire destroyed the house.
Brandon Division Chief Ben Warren says the heaviest part of the fire was in the attic.
All four family members who were inside the home made it out without any injuries.
The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
As for the family, this is the second time they’ve lost their home.
“Back in 2005, they lost everything in Hurricane Katrina. Their house was actually moved about 300 yards from its location. So this is not the first time they’ve lost everything and especially with the community being aware of their situation, and the history with everything, they have just completely engulfed them with love and it’s been amazing,” says Nora Perkins, niece of the homeowner.
We’re told a local church is helping the family find a place to stay while they recover from the house fire.
