JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Drivers, you will want to be on your best behavior. A nationwide campaign is starting to crack down on road safety.
Law enforcement officers are teaming up to push the Click It or Ticket Campaign.
It’s a campaign that runs to enforce seatbelt laws while also reminding drivers of the importance of using them.
Statistics show that seat belts more than double the chance of surviving a car crash. The Mississippi Highway Patrol held a press conference Friday with several different agencies to announce the plan.
The campaign includes all law enforcement agencies across the state. Officers will be checking closely to make sure drivers are buckled up.
They said it’s one of the quickest life saving measures while hitting the road.
A total of 313 candles were lit to represent the lives lost in 2015 by drivers that here not wearing seat belts.
Leaders say Memorial Day weekend is one of the deadliest of the year.
The Click It or Ticket enforcement will run from May 23 through June 5th.
