Man wanted in connection with Northside Drive murder investigation surrenders to police

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The man wanted in connection with a Northside Drive murder investigation is now in custody.

Officer Colendula Green said Shawn Trotter turned himself into police. He was wanted for murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle.

Police said on February 19, they went to W. Northside Drive near Sunset Boulevard to respond to a shooting. They found Howard Blackmon dead in his car near The Spot Lounge.

Several people got into a fight and pulled out guns, exchanging fire. JPD said Blackmon was shot in the chest in the while he was trying to leave The Spot Lounge. Blackmon was not the intended target in the shooting; JPD said he was killed in the crossfire.

Maurice Dent and Erik Johnson were previously arrested and each charged with murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle and for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

JPD said Trotter allegedly fired an assault rifle during the altercation.
