Richland officers arrest man after police chase ends in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — One man is in custody after a Richland police chase that ended in Jackson.

Authorities charged 48-year-old Craig Shult in the incident.

Richland Police Chief Russel James said Shult allegedly stole about $500 worth of merchandise from Walmart. The store’s loss prevention officer approached Shult about the merchandise. Chief James said Shult assaulted the loss prevention officer.

A police pursuit started when Shult left the store and rammed to a Richland patrol car. He was taken into custody in Jackson on Lynch Street.

Chief James said Shult had two active felony warrants out of Illinois. At this time, he is facing an aggravated assault charge. More charges could come.
