WJTV – The Lady Choctaw softball team’s record-breaking 39th win of the season was a memorable one.
A 3-0 victory for Mississippi College over Belhaven on Friday gave the Lady Choctaws their first NCCAA national championship.
Senior pitcher Carlie Sargent, who was also named the Most Outstanding Player for the tournament, struck out seven and gave up just four hits in a complete game shutout effort. After holding a 1-0 lead for four innings, the Lady Choctaws got some insurance runs in the fifth when junior Megan Everett singled in two runs to help seal the win.
Mississippi College finishes the season at 39-19 while Belhaven finishes with a record of 37-9.
