TALLAHASSEE (WJTV) – Southern Miss is known as a team that can put up runs, but that wasn’t the case today against Florida State.
Seminole starter Tyler Holton held the Golden Eagles to just four hits as Florida State beat Southern Miss 7-2. That’s the lowest hit total for USM since April 19. Holton tallied six strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work.
Holton got his run support mainly from two home runs. When Southern Miss was leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Steven Wells Jr. launched a three-run home run to give Florida State a 3-2 lead.
Then, Jackson Lueck put the game out of reach with a two-run home run to make it a 7-2 ballgame in the bottom of the sixth.
The Golden Eagles will play in an elimination game against South Alabama, who they beat in their first regional game, tomorrow at 11 a.m.
