JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – People are out advocating for a child’s right to have both parents in their lives ahead of Father’s Day.
These advocates support 50-50 parenting.
The advocates tell us that some fathers don’t actually walk out on their kids but that their hands are tied in family court.
Some advocates tell us they want the judges to assume that children will spend half of their time with their mom, and the other half, with their dad.
Others believe that the court system is biased.
“Not saying that a man should have 100 percent custody of his kids, and not saying a woman should have 100 percent custody of kids. We’re advocating equal rights. We think a child should have equal time with his mom and dad,” said Jack Robinson, an advocate.
Advocates like Robinson tell us that if changes are not made, a fatherless world will continue.
