HOLMES COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One home was filled with bullet holes and another destroyed by a fire.
Both happened in Holmes County and investigators believe one family is being targeted.
“I heard a shot and it came through the house and the next thing I know, I heard ’Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop! Pop!”
Matthew Brooks is on edge after he says someone sprayed his Goodman home with bullets Sunday night.
Brooks and his girlfriend were inside at the time, they were unharmed.
‘One shot, two shot, three shot,” said Brooks.
But, that’s not all. Later on that day, Brooks says someone set fire to his mother’s house down in Pickens.
‘This house meant so much to us and now it’s gone,” said Brooks.
Luckily, she wasn’t at home at the time.
Brooks doesn’t know why someone would do this but believes his family is being targeted.
“It got to be, cause ain’t no way they are just going to shoot at my house and moments later her house is on fire,” said Brooks.
“We do think it could be connected to the shooting and the house burning down,” said Sheriff Willie March of the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff March laid out 23 bullet casings collected from Brooks’ home.
He says investigators believe the gunman had a high-power rifle and may have a vendetta against a family member.
Right now, detectives are searching for leads
And brooks is hoping they will catch whoever did this soon.
“If you know you done this turn yourself in because it’s going to be bad for you. You almost took my life and you almost took my girl’s life,” said Brooks.
If you have information that can lead to an arrest, you’re asked to call Holmes County Crimestoppers.
