SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – One state senator is found not guilty of a DUI charge.
He says he is glad it’s behind him.
Senator Terry Burton was cleared of a second-offense DUI by a Scott County judge on Thursday, June 16, 2016.
Senator Burton says the judge ruled that cough syrup and breath spray caused a false positive on a breath test.
Burton said he drank some cough syrup due to a coughing fit after he got into an accident back in May.
He said he was drinking hours before at a concert.
Burton is the state’s President Pro Tempore.
It is the second-ranking leadership role in the senate.
