Mom wanted for allegedly abandoning children in Rankin County turns herself in

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The Rankin County mother wanted in a child abandonment case in Rankin County has turned herself in.

Police said Kayundra Charon Battle Peels is in custody.

She will be given two charges of child desertion and a felony charge of child abandonment.

Her husband, Quincy Montanna Peels turned himself into Pearl Police late Wednesday afternoon.

Rankin County Deputies were called to Hwy 80 at the Rankin and Hinds county line for three children that were abandoned.

The children are 3-years-old, 7-years-old and 10-years old. People who observed the abandonment told police two males and two females left the vehicle.

The three children were seen wandering in the area roadside for about an hour before law enforcement arrived on scene.

The Mississippi Department of Human Services has since placed the children with the paternal grandparents.
