Ross Barnett Reservoir Foundation to Host Fifth Annual Independence Day Celebration

The Barnett Reservoir Foundation and the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District will sponsor the 5th annual Independence Celebration on Saturday, July 2, featuring the unique “dueling fireworks” show launched from both sides of Barnett Reservoir.  Admission is free, but contributions will be accepted at the gates to help pay for the fireworks show.  In addition to celebrating Independence Day, the event will offer plenty to enjoy for Americans of all ages – so much so that it requires two parks to handle the load.
At Old Trace Park in Ridgeland, REZFest is scheduled from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., featuring lots of educational and fun opportunities for children, with an emphasis on conservation and outdoor recreation. The park will also have live music from 4 until 9 p.m., food vendors and a beer garden.
At Lakeshore Park in Rankin County, the events include a Classic Car Show, military displays, live music, food vendors and a beer garden.
Both parks will provide an excellent viewing spot to enjoy the fireworks, which will be accompanied by a patriotic simulcast on MISS 103 FM. The event activities begin at 4 p.m. but parks will be open to foot traffic throughout the day.  No outside coolers will be allowed through the gates.
