Man charged in Citgo shooting, hit-and-run investigation

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Jackson Police have arrested a man in connection with a gas station shooting and a hit-and-run incident.

Police charged 36-year-old Jerome Heard with the crimes. He’s charged with two counts of aggravated assault and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

Around 2:37 Wednesday morning, police went to the Citgo gas station on Medgar Evers Boulevard in regards to a shooting. A 53-year-old man was shot multiple times and taken to a hospital. At last check, he was still listed in critical condition.

Police said the suspect left the scene in a red Toyota Camry. Police identified Heard as a suspect in this case after reviewing surveillance video.

Around 3:42 a.m., police went to Bounds Street where a man was hit by a car. Police said the victim was in the car with Heard and the two men got into an argument. They said Heard pushed the man out of the car and tried to run him over. Police said he hit the victim and left the scene. The victim’s jaw was broken, according to police. Police also found a weapon at this location that they believed was used in the Citgo shooting.

Heard was arrested on Overbrook Drive.

Police also charged Heard in connection with an incident on Monday. They said he allegedly fired shots at someone on Idaho Street. No one was injured.
