Gov. Bryant orders flags to be lowered at half-staff in honor of Dallas victims

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – Governor Phil Bryant ordered flags to half-staff after the after the deadly Thursday night ambush of Dallas police officers.

Governor Bryant made that announcement Friday morning. He called the ambush “an act of cowardliness.”

Five officers were killed, and six others were injured Thursday after the gunman, Micah Johnson, 25, opened fire on officers. Those officers were patrolling at a protest about the recent killings by police in Louisiana and Minnesota.

Texas authorities used a bomb to kill Johnson after hours of a standoff. We’re told they sent a robot into the building where Johnson was hiding and detonated it.

We’re told several people were taken into custody in Dallas following the shooting. Dallas Police Chief, David Brown, believes the suspects acted alone.
