Bus stop created for veterans

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A local pastor is thanking everyone who helped with getting a bus bench installed at a JATRAN bus stop.

WJTV first reported on this story last month in June.

When Pastor Lanford Porter told us he asked the City of Jackson to place a bench at a bus stop for the veterans to sit down.

Here’s a look at the new bench on the corner of McFadden and McDowell road.

Porter told us the bench has now been there for about a week.

He thanked the city for installing the bench and he told us what this situation taught him.

“And I’ve learned that when it comes to working with city officials, it’s better to put in positive input and your money where your mouth is, rather than to make negative comments that doesn’t get anything done,” said Pastor Ford.

Last month, Porter told us his church bought a concrete stand for the people to stand on so they wouldn’t have to stand in the mud or dirt.
