LAUREL, Miss. (WJTV) — A person was taken to the hospital after being shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer.
ICE officials said one of their Enforcement and Removal Operations officers responded to a scene after local police in Laurel requested assistance around 9 p.m. Wednesday.
ICE Southern Region Communications Director Bryan Cox said the ERO officer witnessed the person resisting the local officer.
We’re told that the ERO officer spoke to the person in English and Spanish, and the person reached into his clothing.
Cox said the officer shot the person in the arm. The person was taken to the hospital.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is investigating the incident. Authorities also said ICE’s Office of Professional Responsibility investigates ICE officer-involved shootings in coordination with their law enforcement partners.
