JPD officers attend funeral for slain Baton Rouge policeman


JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Jackson Police officers are standing with the Baton Rouge community Friday as they laid to rest an officer that was killed in the line of duty.

The funeral for Officer Matthew Gerald was held Friday at the Healing Place Church in the Baton Rouge area.

Thousands showed up to the service to honor the fallen law enforcement officer, including some officers from Jackson.

Photos and videos from the ceremony were posted on JPD’s Twitter feed.

The 41-year-old was one of three law enforcement officers killed Sunday outside of a convenience store.

Local sheriff’s deputy Brad Garafola’s will be remembered at a Saturday funeral. The funeral for another Baton Rouge Police Department officer, Montrell Jackson, is set for Monday.
