BRANDON, Miss. (WJTV) – A new amphitheater is coming to the City of Brandon.
Bright lights and musical nights is what the City of Brandon is looking forward to.
Butch Lee, the Mayor of Brandon, unveiled what the “Brandon Amphitheater at the Quarry” would look like.
“A page in the chapter is turned. We kind of gotten out of the pre-construction mode and into the bid award mode. So it’s going to be somewhat of a relief to turn this over to a construction company, so they can begin work on it,” said Mayor Lee.
The amphitheater will hold at least 8,000 seats, which would include lower and upper seating, VIP private rooms and two parking lots.
The 250 acre venue will be located on Boyce Thompson Drive which has close access to the interstate.
Mayor Lee says this was the perfect location.
“It was blighted property. It was already in somewhat of a bowl configuration. So we didn’t have to move about 50,000 miles of dirt to get it to where it needs to be now,” said Mayor Lee.
The beginning stages of the project has been in the works for the past three years.
It’s expected to cost the city $20,000,000 and a tax, already in place, is helping fund it.
“The two percent food and beverage tax we passed three years ago, here in the city, is what’s fueling this. So it’ll just take care of it and that way we’re not tapping into our property taxes,” said Mayor Lee.
Mayor Lee hopes the amphitheater will bring economic growth and increase tourism in the city.
The project is expected to be completed by April 1, 2018.
