VICKSBURG, Miss. (WJTV) — The search continues for a man in the Mississippi River.
The dump truck he was in that rolled into the river Tuesday has been recovered. Rescuers are still looking for Michael Collins.
Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace said the truck had been pulled onto the bank of the river. Now, the sheriff’s department with help from the Warren County Emergency Management Agency and the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks are continuing the search for Collins.
“This isn’t new to us unfortunately, but there’re so many variables,” said John Elfer of the Warren County EMA.
“Changing water levels,” he said. The surface of the water. Obviously, the unknowns that are in the bottom of the river. Those can be challenges, and it’s extremely dangerous to work.”
The sheriff’s department has patrol boats and sonar capability. Patrol boats have been in the water since about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Sheriff Pace says the search will continue into the night until Collins is found.
Elfer is asking that the public avoids the area near the search along the river and Warrenton Road if possible.
