EDWARDS, Miss. (WJTV) — A local police department is pushing residents around the state to help Mississippians affected by flooding.

On Sunday, Chief Torrence Mayfield said officers from his department went to Crosby to drop off donations. They are hoping this encourages others around the state to do the same.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency told WJTV on Tuesday that after local assessments had been completed, there was not enough damage to meet the federal standards to request a Presidential Declaration for Crosby. A Presidential Declaration allows federal funds to be made available to those affected by disasters.

MEMA said they are working with Wilkinson County on solutions to help residents get their homes repaired, and a massive consolidated volunteer coordination effort is underway.
