BILOXI, Miss. (AP) – A grand jury has recommended a larger building for the Harrison County Juvenile Detention Center.
The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/2bV2NsF) the recommendation is included in the final report for latest six-month term in the Circuit Court district based in Biloxi.
Though too small, the reports says the youth detention center is “clean, well-maintained and well-managed,” and its staff is using innovative diversion programs and a dog therapy program to help rehabilitate at-risk youth.
The center is in the old Biloxi jail, and is operated by Mississippi Security Police.
County officials are considering moving the juvenile detention facility so it is on the same property as Youth Court.
