MDOT alerting drivers about potential congestion due to Trump visit

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — The Mississippi Department of Transportation is alerting drivers about potential congestion on the interstate and in downtown Jackson because of Donald Trump’s visit.

The Republican Presidential Nominee is expected to be in the Capital City Wednesday night for a fundraising event and a rally. The public rally will be at the Mississippi Coliseum. Doors will open at 4 p.m., and the event is expected to start 7 p.m.

MDOT said drivers trying to use I-55 or I-20 are encouraged to use I-220, Lakeland Drive, or Highway 80 to maneuver around downtown Jackson. Those who are trying to get to Downtown, MDOT suggests using the Pearl Street exit if you are traveling I-55 North and the High Street exit if you are traveling I-55 South.

MDOT said traffic might starting backing up as early as 3 p.m.
