JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – More than a hundred friends and family members of Tyler Porrier showed up to remember him during a vigil. Tyler died in a car accident, after leaving school Thursday afternoon.
“Everybody is gathering here today in honor of Tyler because he means a lot to everybody. and you know we just got to stay strong together, that way we can keep everybody going,” said Stephen Bowen, Tyler’s best friend.
Friday evening, loved ones held a candlelight vigil at Acey’s Machine shop in Jackson.
“This is the shop that he built his car at,” Taylor Dobbins, a friend of Tyler’s added.
Tyler Porrier was known for his love for fast cars.
“Since the day he got his driver’s license all he wanted to do was race,” said a friend of Tyler.
“He loved to race. That’s what he wanted to do. That’s what he was leaving high school for was to go to get his car to get it here, so they could work on it. So, he loved it,” said Nita Alford, Tyler’s cousin.
Friends even painted their cars with his nickname.
“Tator Tot, or Tot for short,” said Kailee Harris, a friend of Tyler.
They all showed their love for a friend many say is gone too soon.
“I got a tattoo, in memory of my best friend, Tyler who passed away, who was very dear to us all,” said Stephen Bowne, Tyler’s best friend.
As candles were lit, many talked about the way Tyler touched their lives, and the memories they plan to keep alive.

“Race in peace, instead of resting in peace”, said Kailee Harris, a friend of Tyler. “Racing was his favorite thing to do.”
“He was a good kid, and his motto was, I got this, and he’s got this,” said Alford.
