Law enforcement in construction zones will be pushed at next legislative session

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The Mississippi Department of Transportation says they’ve been pushing for more safety measures at construction zones.

This comes after a deadly accident in Byram.

A lawmaker says he plans to bring it up at the next legislative session.

Three people died in an I-55 pileup on Saturday, August 20, 2016.

People in the area called the construction zone near Siwell Road a death trap.

Senator Willie Simmons is the Transportation and Highway Committee chair.

He says he will be talking about legislation that would require law enforcement at construction zones.
