Businesses urged to become “safe harbors” for realtors and clients

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – September is Realtor Safety month.

Central Mississippi realtors launched a statewide campaign.

They will partner with local businesses in order to help out.

The purpose of the event is to ask local business owners to make their lobby or reception area a “safe harbor” for real estate agents.

This event comes in the wake of Realtor Beverly Carter’s tragic death in Arkansas back in 2014.

Carter was kidnapped and killed by a man while out showing a home.

“This is just an app in a program, where local businesses that can sign up, to offer their reception and lobby locations to provide a safe meeting place for all realtors to meet their clients,” said Megan Hall, the Central Mississippi Realtor President. “It is too offers a level of comfort for the client so when they meet in a public place, you are not meeting at a vacant house for the first time.”

Over 25 businesses have already signed up as realtor safe harbor locations.
