Former Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office deputy clerk charged with embezzlement

PONTOTOC COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) A former Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office deputy clerk is charged with embezzlement.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering said 33-year-old Stephanie Cooper turned herself in on September 6.

She was issued a demand of $59,752.75.

According to the state auditor’s office, Cobber was responsible for bookkeeping. She allegedly embezzled about $44,440.58. We’re told that the money was taken from the collections of bond payments and other fees.

She worked for the sheriff’s department from November 2002 until September 2016.
