JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — Twenty Jackson firefighters will head to Meridian Wednesday so that they can fill in for Meridian fire crews who want to attend the funeral of the fireman who was killed in an accident last week.
Eric Gustafson and two other firefighters were responding to a call Friday morning when the firetruck they were in rolled over. Gustafson died from his injuries. The other two firemen were taken to the hospital.
Cleotha Sanders of JFD said Jackson firefighters would fill in at the Meridian fire stations for most of the day.
JFD crews will leave the capital city early Wednesday morning. They plan to arrive in Meridian at 7 a.m. and stay until 7 p.m.
A memorial service was scheduled for Tuesday in Meridian for Gustafson. He was originally from New Orleans. A Mass of Christian burial is set for Wednesday in Metairie, Louisiana.
