JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) — A Meridian resident pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.
Eric Deshawn Smith, 32, of Meridian, pled guilty to one count of child exploitation according to a press release by the Mississippi Attorney General’s office.
Smith was sentenced to 40 years in prison; 33 years were suspended.
Smith will now only have to serve seven years. His prison sentence will be followed by five years of post-release supervision.
Smith was also ordered to pay $1,000 to the Mississippi Children’s Trust Fund, $1,000 to the Mississippi Crime Victim Compensation Fund, and he must register as a sex offender.
Smith was arrested Monday, April 4, 2016.
An investigation revealed Smith was “downloading images and videos of child sexual abuse”.
