Couple escapes Brandon house fire

UPDATE: 09/13/2016 8:36am All lanes of traffic on US-80 are reopen after a house fire in Brandon this morning.

UPDATE: 09/13/2016 8:17am  Crews are working to make certain that all hot spots have been extinguished so that fire investigators can go inside the home.  Officials say the fire broke out at approximately 6:30 this morning.  The homeowners say they heard a “popping” sound inside the home and woke up.  When the husband went to look to see what was responsible for the noise he saw smoke filling up the inside of the home.

Both the man and his wife were able to get out of the home safely.

A person driving by saw the smoke and called 911.

UPDATE: 09/13/2016 8:11am Traffic is still delayed at least 30 minutes in the area.

Brandon, Mississippi (WJTV) – A structure fire in Rankin County is causing all lanes in all directions to be blocked along U80 at Edgewood Crossing.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) is advising drivers to expect delays of 30 minutes or more as crews work that fire.  Where possible MDOT is asking motorists to use an alternate route.

There are no immediate details available about the fire or whether anyone was inside the home.

WJTV is en route to the scene.  We will provide updates as soon as they are available.
