Police said they received the call around 10:14 a.m.

“I think it was a terrible decision made by the part of the deceased and it cost him his life,” Jackson Police Chief Lee Vance said. “I have a lot of sympathy for the occupant that fired the shot because I have spoken to him, and he is very distraught, but he was put in a position where he had to defend his home.”

We are told that the alleged burglar died a the scene. He was shot in the chest with a shotgun. JPD said the alleged burglar tried to break into the home through a sliding glass door.

“I think they (criminals) should receive the fact that some people are not going to tolerate this and that they are going to defend their home and it is their right to do so. Unwanted intruders are not welcome in the consequences can be deadly,” Chief Vance said.
